Lanaia @ The Temporary Escape

Reading & Reviewing books of different genres, mostly YA Fantasy & Science Fiction.

Everneath - Brodi Ashton I liked Everneath a lot. I like that it was unpredictable, I had no idea how the story will end and the ending was great! In the first half of the book I didn't like how Nikki was hiding from everybody. I liked the romance, though for their age (I think they are 17), they shouldn't be so scared to touch each other, since they were best friends for quite a long time. At that age, I was very curious about boys ;)
I liked Cole, the "bad boy". I think Nikki shouldn't blame him for everything that happened, she brought that on herself. And I think Cole had some feelings for her, so I wonder what's gonna happen with them in the next book. There remains a lot of questions unanswered, so I'm really looking forward to reading the sequel.
Deeper - Megan Hart My eyes should probably hurt more from rolling them so much, I barely got through this book. I hated most of the main characters, I hated Nick, I hated Andy, I hated Bess and her low self-confidence and her pathetic choice of boyfriends, I hated her "friend" Missy and I hated Bess again, for letting them all screwing with her. All in all, I hate this book.
The Lovely Bones - Alice Sebold Generally, I liked this book a lot. I loved the first half of it and I thought it's gonna be great, but the second half was a bit boring and weird. It was confusing at some parts and I hardly kept up with it.
A Thousand Splendid Suns - Khaled Hosseini It ripped my heart out of my chest and I cried like a little baby.
A Clash of Kings - George R.R. Martin I LOVE this series!
Double Dealer - Max Allan Collins, Mike Flaherty Ugh, this book took all my love for reading for few hours and I HATE that feeling -.-
I’m not used to giving 1-star rating, but reading this was a complete waste of time, I can’t think of a single good thing about it. The storyline was boring, it wasn’t really a mystery who was the killer, we just wait for them to catch him. All the characters were “oh-so-great”, but in fact shallow and dull and we don’t get to know anything about their personal life (or their personality).
It was like reading a script. I wouldn’t recommend this book to anybody, the TV series is much better.
Happy Dog - Liz Dalby, Helen Dennis In my opinion, the book has too much pictures (there're cute dogs and puppies, but still) and not enough text. I found all advices pretty basic, but for some people I think this book would be nice, especially for beginners or people who plan to have a dog. One information that I found interesting was that border collies are generally nervous dogs so that would explain my dog's nervousness (he's a border-collie mix).

3 stars for fast and light read, but nothing new.
Alice's Adventures in Wonderland & Through the Looking-Glass - Lewis Carroll "Life, what is it but a dream?"

I really liked both stories of Alice's adventures, they were full of magical creatures, animals, queens, even a talking pudding was there. Mostly it was all just nonsense, but funny and sweet...and dreams are often that way..
Bloodlines - Richelle Mead When I first found out Richelle Mead is going to write a spin-off series of VA and that narrator's going to be Syndey, I was sooo excited, I really liked Sydney in VA. Now that I've read Bloodlines, I like her even more. She's everything I expected, I could relate to her much better than to Rose, she's more mature and responsible. Rose was too childish for me sometimes, especially in first book of VA, when she would throw herself at every boy she'd see and she would constantly repeat how awesome she is. I find Syndey cooler.

Next, I know I probably shouldn't say this because I'm gonna be eternally cursed by Adrian fans (and there seems to be a lot of them), but I don't know what's all the fuss about Adrian, really..he's a manwhore. Yes, Rose left him for Dimitri, boo-hoo, grow up! He wouldn't stop whining about it, he can't even hear anybody say her name and he would sleep with every girl that came around.
BUT I admit that he developed as the character throughout the book and he was quite likeable at the end. I suspect I'll like him better in following books.

I enjoyed the story, but I was missing some romance and I'd like more action. I'm looking forward to reading The Golden Lily though, I really liked that last sentence in Bloodlines ;).

Hush, Hush - Becca Fitzpatrick This book was on my to-read list for a long time so I was pretty excited when I finally started reading it, but now I can say it just didn't live up to my expectations. There were so many things that reminded me of Twilight and it was like reading a rip-off. Also, the plot line was too predictable, there weren't any surprises for me. I will still probably get to read Crescendo, but I won't be expecting much..
A Game of Thrones - George R.R. Martin Absolutely fantastic! Can't wait for more.
Harry Potter: The Prequel (Harry Potter, #0.5) - J.K. Rowling This is not even a book, it's just a random scene where James and Sirius are chased by police cars and it's far too short. Still, I liked it, since it's Harry Potter and I really miss Harry Potter stories.
The Night Circus - Erin Morgenstern Wow.. That was a wonderful magical story, placed between reality and dream. One of the most beautiful books I have ever read.
